Mark 5:41
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Meaning
“Little girl”
Talitha is Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke: “little girl”, “maiden”. Mark kept Jesus’ exact words — “Talitha cumi”, “little girl, arise” — and translated them for his Greek readers.
In the original:ταλιθά talithá · Strong G5008
Talitha is not the name of a character in the Bible: it is what Jesus called Jairus’ twelve-year-old daughter when he raised her. He took her by the hand, said “Talitha cumi”, and she got up and walked. The name was born from those words of Jesus.
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
