Genesis 25:26
And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
Meaning
“Heel-holder”
From the Hebrew Ya’aqov (יַעֲקֹב), from ’aqev, “heel”: he was born holding the heel of his twin brother, Esau. Hence the sense of “supplanter”, the one who takes another’s place. God later gave him a new name: Israel.
In the original:יַעֲקֹב Yaʻăqôb · Strong H3290
Jacob was Isaac’s son and Abraham’s grandson. He took his brother’s blessing, fled, served fourteen years for Rachel and, on the way back, wrestled all night with God at the ford of the Jabbok. His twelve sons became the twelve tribes of Israel. James is the English form of the same name.
And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
