Ruth 1:16
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Meaning
“Friend”, “companion”
From the Hebrew Rut (רוּת). The meaning is uncertain; Strong’s lexicon links it to re’ut, “companion, friend” — exactly what she was to Naomi.
In the original:רוּת Rûwth · Strong H7327
Ruth was a Moabite, the widow of an Israelite. When her mother-in-law Naomi went back to Bethlehem, Ruth refused to leave her: Naomi’s people and God would be hers. She married Boaz and became King David’s great-grandmother — a foreigner in the genealogy of Jesus.
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
