Who was Jonah in the Bible?

Jonah was the prophet who ran from God: sent to Nineveh, he sailed the opposite way, was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a great fish. In the end he preached, and the city repented. Jesus used Jonah’s three days in the fish as a sign of his own death and resurrection.
