Who was Peter in the Bible?

Simon was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when Jesus called him. Impulsive, he walked on water, confessed that Jesus is the Christ and then denied him three times; restored, he preached at Pentecost and became one of the pillars of the church. Two letters of the New Testament bear his name.
