In the Bible, praying is talking with God the way children speak to their Father. Jesus gave a model, the Lord’s Prayer, and the New Testament letters insist: pray always, about everything, trusting that God hears.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer: first God’s name, kingdom and will; then bread, forgiveness and protection.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Ask, seek and knock: three verbs of persistence, with the promise of an answer.
