Sermon title
As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD
Main idea
A strong family does not happen by chance: it comes from a decision, renewed every day, to serve God together.
Text
Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Introduction
In his old age, Joshua gathered the people at Shechem and retold everything God had done, from Abraham to the conquest of the land. Then he set a choice before them — and declared his own.
1. A decision
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15 · Read the chapter →
Joshua did not wait for the majority’s opinion: he chose first. A family’s faith begins when someone decides, not when conditions are ideal.
Application: Talk at home about whom your family chooses to serve.
2. A home that hears the Word
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 · Read the chapter →
God commanded that his words be in the parents’ hearts and be taught to the children at home, on the way, lying down and rising up. Faith passes from one generation to the next in everyday life, not only in church.
Application: Choose a moment in your routine — a meal, bedtime — to read a verse together.
3. A house built by the LORD
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Psalms 127:1 · Read the chapter →
Unless the LORD builds the house, they labour in vain who build it. Effort is necessary, but it is not enough: the family has to depend on God.
Application: Pray together about your household’s decisions before you make them.
Conclusion
The people answered Joshua that they too would serve the LORD: one man’s choice drew a nation’s. Your decision today can be the beginning of a legacy of faith for those who come after you.
