More Than Doing Things for God · Day 1

When Doing Never Feels Like Enough

By Wolisson Nascimento Santos

“Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”

Philippians 3:6 · King James Version (KJV)

You have done a lot of things right.

You showed up early. You served when nobody was watching. You put your name down when help was needed. Anyone looking from outside would say you love God — and they would not be wrong.

But there are days when that gets tiring. Days of doing everything and still feeling it was not enough. Even when you stop, your mind keeps counting what is left to do.

Paul also had a list of things he could present: his background, his zeal, his obedience to the Law. This week we will follow what happened when he encountered Christ and had to look at that list again.

Today, begin by acknowledging your own tiredness. God looked at you before the first thing you ever did for him. And he looked with love. You do not have to turn every task into proof of that love.

You can rest without loving him any less.

The context

Paul is writing from a prison, to a church he loves. In chapter 3 he is answering people who said Christ was not enough — you had to keep the Law as well. And he does something unexpected: instead of arguing, he lays out his own résumé. Circumcised on the right day. From the right tribe. A Pharisee. Zealous. And he ends with this: blameless.

It is the last line of a list. And it is a list that, one verse later, he will call loss.

Did you know?

“Blameless” does not mean “sinless”. The Law had a path for when someone failed: admit it, bring the offering, put it right. To be blameless was to leave nothing outstanding — to be up to date. Paul is not saying he never fell. He is saying his record was clean.

And something was still missing.

A line to keep

God looked at you before the first thing you ever did for him.

Today’s challenge

Today, say no to ONE thing you were going to accept just so you would not let anyone down. Say “I can’t today” and do not explain why.
